Guiding services are available from April through October, weather dependant.
At Dirtbag Climbing, there exists a variety of ways to help you get outside and enjoy the wonderful vertical world. From climbing rock for your first time, to refining your traditional climbing and rescue skills, we have something for everyone. All programs are supervised by company director, and ACMG Rock Guide, Dan Geddes. All climbing program staff have a minimum of a Top Rope Climbing Instructor certification. Our favorite topics:
-
Learn to climb outside, either top-roping only, or learn to lead/sport climb
-
Build technical skills through anchors, rope systems, belaying techniques, rappeling and lowering
-
Rock based self rescue, enhance your ability to avoid trouble and get out of it if trouble finds you
-
Traditional climbing, protection and anchors, learn to use all the tools
-
Multi-pitch climbing systems, go higher with both sport and traditional climbing
-
Just want to go somewhere you haven't been? We'll take you up!
Some of the best places to go:
-
The local spots! Mountain Shadows and Spillimacheen are close to Golden, best for intro skills
-
Bow Valley, Canmore and Kananaskis, best for multi-pitching skills
-
David Thompson Corridor and Nordegg, best all round for variety and multi-day access
-
Revelstoke, good variety
-
Skaha Bluffs in Penticton, best sport climbing, most consistent weather, best volume of climbing
Some ideas on timeline:
-
If you have less experience, 2 day programs are strongly recommended. This is the best way to embody your new skills and process all the information enough to be able to ask the questions and get the feedback that are required for learning
-
If you want to learn something very specific, want to try outdoor climbing or just want us to take you up something, then 1 day programs are very reasonable
-
If you're on a time constraint, half day top-roping adventures are an option
-
We're happy to set up a coaching schedule throughout the winter and/or summer season that involves regular check-ins throughout the season to make sure you're on track to achieve your goals
